Osama Bin Laden is Dead!

BREAKING NEWS: The CIA and Navy SEALs have killed Osama Bin Laden! Man, we have only been after him for nearly all of my life… ever since the 1993 World Trade Center bombings. He and his Al-Qaeda did some kind of mass terrorist attack massacre every few years ever since, including the “big one”, the 9/11 attacks. Gosh, I’ve just gotten so used to us looking for him for so long that having actually found him seems so odd. My first reaction when I heard the news was “Really? Or is this some kind of hoax?” Sure enough, it seems to be the real thing.

Here’s what BBC News, Voice of America, CNN, Fox News, and Al Jazeera have to say.

So, apparently he was hiding in a suburb of Islamabad called Abbottabad, living in some kind of high-walled compound. Of all places to be hiding, this particular town is mainly inhabited by Pakistani military officers. According the BBC News, a local resident insisted they had no idea who was living there. Apparently how they found Bin Laden was that a messenger was intercepted on his way to Abbotabad.

The Navy SEALs ended up killing four men and one unlucky woman who was being used as a human shield. Bin Laden himself was shot twice in the head. No U.S. forces were harmed. Of course, the military wanted to make sure it really was him, so they did a number of tests to make sure they got it right, including DNA testing. In accordance with Islamic custom, the Navy buried him at sea. Personally, I am disappointed in that particular move, as I had hoped they would string him up at Ground Zero and let people vandalize the corpse. But I guess that would have looked bad to our allies in the Middle East. Oh, well.

Still in shock about the whole thing. But I’m happy it’s finally over.
